Registration for Summer Camps Opens Saturday April 2!

OFT is excited to present our most exciting summer ever! We are offering 40 different camps over 11 weeks, and continuing our ACCESS FOR ALL pricing initiative!

There are a variety of half day camps to MIX AND MATCH in order to spend the whole day at OFT (lunchtime supervision provided), and several multi-week programs to really dive deep into learning and ensemble building.

Week 1: June 23rd-24th

Julian and I are Mermaids 

Time: 9am-12pm
For youth entering grades 3rd, 4th, 5th 

In this two-day camp, queer characters are put center stage! Campers will use theater games and activities to explore stories and media that show us how to live out loud and shine in the spotlight!

Stories Out Loud 

Time: 9am-4pm
For youth entering grades 6th, 7th, 8th 

This two-day camp is a crash course in creating stories and scenes featuring queer characters. Work as an ensemble to explore how stories are crafted, and how to bring them to life on stage!

STONEWALL: History of Queer Protest 

Time: 1pm-5pm
For youth entering grades 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th 

This two-day camp deep dives into the history of Queer Protest, LBGTQIA+ icons, and how to use theater for social change.

The World of Oz

There is a lot more to Oz than when Dorothy dropped in! This character focused acting camp immerses campers into the wonderful world of Oz beyond what the storybooks tell you!

Movie Musicals

Explore the world of movie musicals and discover how these songs and stories translate from stage to screen! Campers will learn the basics of choreography, and work in a variety of group sizes to create original dance moves!

Clown Camp

Clown around with us this week at Clown Camp! Campers will learn the basics of juggling, physical storytelling, and ensemble building as they create their own clown character!

Poetry & Spoken Word

Modern Musicals: Lin-Manuel Miranda

Explore the music of Moana, Encanto, Hamilton, and More in the Lin Manuel Miranda focused musical theater camp! Actors will learn to sing, dance, and create scenes that belong in the world of these magical musicals!

Improv & Sketch Comedy

Improve your Improv with this comedy-centered camp! Play some classic Improv games, explore some of the most famous sketch comedy scenes, and work as an ensemble to create original work!

Follow Max through the jungle to the Wild Rumpus and meet many magical monsters along the way!

Dungeons & Dragons

Arts & Crafts: Technical Theater

Learn the basics of set, lighting, and costume design through a variety of arts and crafts projects and theater games!

Playwriting Intensive

For youth entering grades 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th

In this two-week Playwriting Intensive camp, young authors will learn the basics of writing stories and creating dialogue for the stage!

Twist & Shout!

Time: 9am-12pm
For youth entering grades K, 1st, 2nd 

This camp uses Music and Movement to explore how our bodies work, feel, and play! Campers will spend the day stretching their minds and muscles, and learn how to express themselves through dance and song!

Puppet Playground

For youth entering grades 3rd, 4th, 5th

Led by the String and Shadow Creative Team, campers will learn the fundamentals of puppetry, and learn to create a unique puppet to take up!

World of Wizardry

Grab your robes, cauldrons, wands, and spellbooks and join this magical, mystical morning camp! Young witches and wizards will play theater games, do arts and crafts, and explore the magic of theater making!

Tales from Around the Globe

Time: 1pm-4pm
For youth entering grades 3rd, 4th, 5th

Explore myths, legends, and folklore from countries around the world! Campers will discover classic tales from each continent, and how to bring those stories to life in our bodies, on stage, and through art activities.

The Actor Prepares: Auditions!

Time: 10am-12:30pm
For youth entering grades 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th

Hone your audition skills in this four day audition boot camp! Actors will work with a variety of monologues and songs, find new and exciting material to work with, and learn how to master the art of the cold read.

Feel It In Your Feet

Time: 9am-12pm
For youth entering grades K, 1st, 2nd 

This dance and movement focused camp will also include theater games, music making, and social emotional learning practices! Through movement and dance we can learn to express how we are feeling, and work through big emotions!

Bring your favorite comic book characters to life, and create some new ones in this comic focused acting camp! Students will play theater games, create art activities, and work as an ensemble to bring the page to the stage!

Puppet Playground

ShakespeareLab- 12th Night

This week long Shakespeare intensive camp deep dives into one of his most famous comedies- Twelfth Night, or what you will. Campers will bring these bold, brash, and brazen characters to life while learning how to work with Shakespearean text and technique.

Week 10: August 22nd-26th

Join your favorite Mo Willems’ friends in this creative exploration camp! Campers will bring Gerald, Piggie, Knuffle Bunny, Naked Mole Rat and the Pigeon to life with their bodies, voices, and imaginations!

Matilda!

Campers will sing and dance to their favorite songs from Matilda: The Musical, and create characters and scenes inspired by this magical, brave heroine.

Week 11: August 29th-September 2nd

Page to Stage: Anime

Time: 9am-12pm
For youth entering grades 3rd, 4th, 5th

Bring your favorite characters and stories from Anime to the stage with this week-long camp! Taking inspiration from Naruto, My Hero Academia, Totoro, Sailor Moon, and much more, campers will use their imaginations to create characters that belong in this magical world of animation.

Into the Woods

This classic musical is a twist on fairy tale stories, and how to be careful of what you wish for! Students will learn music and choreography from this Sondhiem masterpiece as well as play theater games and activities.

Summer Stage Camp | July 11th-29th (Three Weeks)

Game of Myths: Actors

Time: 1pm-5pm
For youth entering grades 7th, 8th, 9th

This three week long camp is designed for students who are both new to performing, and old veterans of the stage! As an ensemble, students will rehearse an entire play for a performance, complete with props, costumes, and set design.

Game of Myths: Tech Crew

Time: 1pm-5pm
For youth entering grades 7th, 8th, 9th

Join the crew of our Summer Stage production of Game of Myths! Crew members will learn how to build sets, set lights, design costumes, and work backstage during the show!

Summer Stage Camp | August 8th-26th (Three Weeks)

Summer Stage: Original Work

Time: 1pm-5pm
For youth entering grades 10th, 11th, 12th

In this three-week long performance intensive, students will create an original work of theater together as an ensemble. Students will learn all facets of theater producing and performing, and take a series of master classes from working professionals to inform their original work.

Summer Stage: Tech Crew

Time: 1pm-5pm
For youth entering grades 10th, 11th, 12th

Join the backstage crew of the Summer Stage Original Work production! This three week tech camp intensive will provide students with the opportunity to immerse themselves in all aspects of running backstage, and how to design sets, lights, and costumes.

Photo Policy:
Olympia Family Theater has permission to utilize all registered students’ image in any live or recorded audio, video or photographic display made of, or at, the class, camp, or workshop in any medium or content for any purposes, including marketing or promotional purposes, without further authorization or compensation. All student names will remain confidential. We will not tag or identify students in any social media posts we make.

Registration Deadlines:
You may register up to the start of class provided there are still spaces available.

 

Multi-Student Discount:
There is a multi-student discount of between $5-$10 off any additional registration that is applied automatically during the online registration process. Not valid on programs that are less than 5 days long. Varies based on program hours.

Cancellation Policy:
If registration is cancelled after it has been processed, but at least two weeks prior to the class/camp start date, a full refund (minus the $25 registration fee) will be given.

If you are requesting to transfer your child’s enrollment to a different class, camp, or workshop at any time, the original registration fee does not transfer and must be paid again to secure your child’s spot.

If registration is cancelled after it has been processed, but is within two weeks of the class/camp start date, a refund of 50% will be given (minus the $25 registration fee)

We strive to make sure all students are satisfied with their experience, but if after completing the first day of class and decide it’s not for you, please let us know before the start of the second class and we will work with families on a case by case basis. After the second day of class, no tuition or enrollment adjustments can be made.

 

No refunds or make-up classes will be provided for classes cancelled due to inclement weather.

OFT reserves the right to cancel any classes, camps, or workshops. In that case, any tuition and registration fees will be refunded in full.

 

Drop-Off

  • OFT will be ready to receive students ten-minutes prior to the start of programming. Please stay in your car, or outside until OFT staff have opened the doors.
  • If a student is going to be absent, or tardy please contact OFT by email at , or call us at 360-570-1638.
  • If a student is not present after ten-minutes of class have passed, an OFT staff member will contact parent/guardian via phone number on file.
  • On the first day of programming, OFT staff will verify student allergies, emergency contact information, authorized adults who can pick-up students, or if the student is able to self-check out. 
  • Self-Checkout authorization is only valid until the end of the session of programming, and must be reauthorized each session. 

 

 

Pick-Up

  • Please be on time to pick up your student from programming. 
  • Students will only be released from the classroom when an authorized adult is present, or a student is allowed to self-checkout.
  • OFT reserves the right to charge for late-pick ups.
  • On the first offence, the parent/guardian will receive a warning. 
  • On the second and following offences, OFT will charge $1 for every minute late, after the first 15 minutes of the program ending. 
  • Payment can be made via cash, check (made out to “Olympia Family Theater”), or credit card- and will be taken at time of pick up. 

 

OFT is committed to providing theater education and experiences to all families regardless of their financial situation. If our offering is not on a sliding scale, reach out to to determine if a scholarship is available.

Payment plans are available for all offerings so families can split the cost into installments at no extra cost. The balance of the tuition, if any, must be paid in full prior to the start of the program. To arrange a payment plan, contact us

Olympia Family Theater provides classes for students Kindergarten through 12th grade, and adults. These classes are focused on building theater skills, ensemble and collaboration, and storytelling. Classes culminate in an end of programming showcase for family and friends, but are not full productions with costumes, props, or other tech elements. 

 

DISCOVERY classes are designed for our Kindergarten-2nd grade students to develop creativity, imagination, and skills for collaborative play.

 

FOUNDATIONS classes are structured for our 3rd-5th grade students to enhance their on-stage skills, explore how to create characters and stories, and work with an ensemble.

 

SPOTLIGHT classes are designed for our 6th-8th grade students. In these classes students will work with published material, devise their own work, and work in a variety of peer group sizes.

 

OFTeen classes are meant for our 9th-12th grade students who are ready to deep dive into specific theater skills, challenge themselves, and work with elevated material. 




 

OFT strives to create a brave space for young people to use theater as a community-building tool. Our educational programs facilitate the process of young artists finding, developing and using their unique voices and perspectives. 

Using theater, we teach critical life skills such as communication, collaboration, and empathy. Our goal is to facilitate both the individual development and collective growth of all young artists who enter our space.
