About Olympia Family Theater (OFT):

Olympia Family Theater’s mission is to engage audiences of all ages in performances and programs that entertain and educate. We have been serving families in Thurston County and surrounding areas since 2006. From humble beginnings, OFT has become a thriving non-profit arts organization engaging thousands of children and their families each year. To date we have produced nearly 60 shows in our mainstage season, including 5 world premieres. .

About the Position:

OFT is seeking an Education Director who will oversee all aspects of Olympia Family Theater educational programming, including classes, break camps, and workshops. Education Director will participate in hiring, supervising and training teaching artists and assistants; develop curriculum and materials for all education programming and mainstage education packets/connections; assist staff in creating an annual budget for educational programs. The Education Director is a key staff role who works closely with the Artistic, Deputy and Communications Directors to steward the overall vision for the company.

Responsibilities & Duties Include:

  • Collaborate with OFT Staff to devise engaging content for K-12 students for all of OFT’s educational programming, including weekly classes, break camps, and pilot programs
  • Maintain a supportive and safe environment aimed at the well-being of youth, participants, staff, and volunteers
  • Oversee the production of educational materials for both main stage and daytime productions which could include education packets, production talk-backs, and wraparound activities
  • On-site support for teaching artists and teach classes and camps as needed
    Communicate appropriately and effectively with staff, parents, students, and community members
  • Provide high quality customer service to participants and families, both adults and youth
  • Work closely with teachers and theater staff to identify issues any program participants are having and develop appropriate solutions
  • Willingness and capacity to train and mentor lead teachers and teaching assistants
  • Build community partnerships and community programs that are mission-aligned and support OFT’s Strategic Plan
  • Collaborate with OFT Staff on strategic planning and casting a vision for the future of the company
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Skills & Qualifications:

Required

  • At least 3-5 years of teaching artistry, education, program development or related experience
  • Significant experience working with youth
  • Experience with curriculum development and program design
  • Reliable and thorough communicator via email, phone, and in-person settings
  • Comfort with Google suite, and ability to learn project management software
  • Attention to detail and ability to project manage various programs and initiatives
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
  • Ability to manage/support/mentor people both individually and in large groups
  • Share OFT’s commitment to an anti-racist and pro-justice practices

Desired

  • Experience creating original performances and/or devised theater
  • An active creative practice in one or more disciplines
  • Experience building in-school partnerships

Compensation:

This is a part-time position, 30-hour per week, paid at $22.00 hourly. We provide flexible working hours, and a generous vacation policy.
