Company-in-Residence

Based in Olympia, WA, String and Shadow Puppet Theater is a company of multidisciplinary artists creating giant puppets, masks, transforming sets, and shadow plays. At the intersection of magical realism, science fiction, and folklore, we create original stories that spark the imaginations of audience members of all ages.

Since our inception in 2017, we have been committed to bringing high-quality theater to our community regardless of financial barriers. All of our shows are presented on a by-donation or sliding-scale basis, with no one turned away for lack of funds. We believe that live-theater is a necessary, community-building practice and it is our intention that our work promote our core values of equitable access to the arts, community-engagement, and social justice.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, we have found inventive ways of bringing live-theater to our community, including “house-call” mini puppet shows and a full-scale Drive-In puppet show in 2020. Looking forward, we are committed to utilizing our art-form as a means to strengthen our community ties and to create opportunities for social discourse and healing.

Our partnership includes puppetry design, an original co-production, onsite studio space and more. To find out more about String & Shadow visit their website here.
