Auditions for The Lightning Thief: the Percy Jackson Musical coming up July 12 & 13! 

Olympia Family Theater is holding auditions for The Lightning Thief: the Percy Jackson Musical. As a son of Poseidon, Percy Jackson has newly discovered powers he can’t control, monsters on his trail, and is on a quest to find Zeus’ lightning bolt to prevent a war between the Greek gods. Featuring a thrilling original rock score, The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical has fans of all ages “cheering like the ball is being dropped on New Year’s Eve!” (New York Magazine) After all, in this “action-packed, mythical adventure,”(City Dads Group) “Percy Jackson is a rock star!” (NY Daily News)”.

We are offering 8-minute audition appointments, one-on-one with Director, Rebecca Rogers and Musical Director, Heather Matthews. We will also accept video submissions: you can choose in-person or video when you fill out our sign up form. 

Audition dates are Wednesday, July 12 and Thursday, July 13 from 6:30-8:30pm. 

Please note: If called back, you will also be asked to attend a Group Callback on Tuesday, July 18.

Prepare for the following in your audition:

A 1-minute monologue or passage of text from the media of your choice. This could be from a book, play, movie, TV show, or any piece of media where the character speaking has a direct listener in mind. Please keep your selection to 60-seconds or less. 

A song. We are providing a list of songs below (many of which you will already know) for you to select from. You will select one of these songs, and then sing it. We will provide a speaker system and be ready to play the track for you. 

For video auditions. Prepare an introduction to yourself. Prepare a monologue or passage per the instructions above. Sing a song per the instructions above. Total video time should be less than 8 minutes. Video auditions are due by 8:30pm on Wed, July 13.

No headshot or resume is required for your appointment.

All experience levels are welcome. This show has a variety of roles for both teens and adults.

CHARACTER LIST 

There are numerous characters inThe Lightning Thief, including 7 lead roles and over a dozen smaller ensemble roles. The original production was staged with just 7 actors – but our team is flexible and may build a larger ensemble based on how auditions go! 

The 7 lead roles include: 

Percy Jackson – Teenager. Son of Poseidon, a good kid with a teenage temper. 

Annabeth – Teenager. Daughter of Athena. Smarter than you. 

Grover – Teenager. A happy-go-lucky satyr, like a hippie kid with hooves. 

Luke – Teen/early 20’s. Son of Hermes. Cool camp counselor. 

Sally Jackson – Percy’s hardworking mother. 

Mr. Brunner aka Chiron – Wise centaur, part-time Latin teacher. 

Clarisse – Teenager. Tough jock girl, daughter of Ares. 

REHEARSAL SCHEDULE & RUN DATES 

The Lightning Thief runs every weekend, October 6-26. Our show schedule is Friday and Saturday evenings at 7pm, and Saturday and Sunday matinees at 3pm. Rehearsals will begin the week of August 22. We typically rehearse Sunday afternoons and Tue-Thur evenings.

Once you sign up for an audition you will receive an email confirming the day of your audition by Friday, July 7. You will receive your exact time slot 48 hours in advance (please hold the entire 3 hours, but you will only need to be present ~20 minutes).
